October 2006

Knee surgery went great, and as of October 9th I'm back to work on more toy sculpts for MGA Entertainment - 6 of them and I've already delivered three. Sounds like there will be many, many more of them to come... if I'm available.

September 2006

MGA Entertainment has given me 11 more little pets to sculpt. I'm completing the last one of the group on October 3rd - the day before I go in for knee surgery. I've already been told there are many more pet sculpts to come.

August 2006

I have completed the three maquettes and the clients love them. I mean, really love them. It was nice to do some work that will hopefully help this project get the green light to go into production. They were all great people to work with, and it also got me working with the folks at Gentle Giant who have always been a pleasure to work with.
I took off my sculptor's hat and put my animator's hat back on and sharpened my pencils for a two-week job with my buddies at Pepper Films, Inc.. It was for a Tony the Tiger spot for Mexico. Did you know Frosted Flakes are called "Zackaritas" in Mexico? Niether did I... till now. The spot is called "Pits". I did the character layouts and animation of Tony that will be composited into live-action plates of a pit crew swapping out a boy's empty cereal bowl for a full one, while Tony times them and makes sure everything goes like clockwork.

July 2006

This month work continues on the maquettes for the Oregon Film Group. After the great response to the very first rough maquette back in June, they asked me to add one more to the group. Which, rounded the group out to three main characters: two human and one animal.
I also sqeezed in a days worth of time to do a little conceptual toy design for Jakks Pacific's "Road Kings" division. The concept they brought to me was an odd one, but it offered some interesting ideas to play around with. They seemed very happy with the sketches I came up with, but I don't know if they will ever produce the line. That's up to the powers that be.

June 2006

This month I'm working with the Oregon Film Group and character designer, Buck Lewis. I'm sculpting three maquettes for an independent animated film they are developing for theatrical release.
I also squeezed in time to sculpt another toy for my friends at MGA Entertainment. This was a new style of little animal that will be part of their "Yummi-Land: Soda Pop Girls" line of toys.

May 2006

After Memorial Day weekend, by request, I spent one day at Reel FX West, in Pasadena, working in Photoshop compositing all the levels of my last Iron Gauntlet shot together. Each frame was then output as a jpeg for the After Effects artist to use in compositing the shot with all the other elements.

Back to 2D animation. Working with Ken Duncan and Mike Smith at Reel FX West, on a demo for the live-action feature film "Kavalier and Clay". Mike's directing this piece, and is in competition with three other studios from around the world. I've taken on all the Iron Gauntlet animation and poses that will appear in the demo and we are on a four week deadline. Burning the midnight oil to get all my work in before the Memorial Day weekend.

April 2006

Finally got notes from the 'Licensor' regarding the sculpts. Word has also come down that they will be available at Walmart late Spring of 2007.

March 2006

Sculpting a couple new animals for MGA Entertainment's "Soda Pop Girls" toy line to fill out the line I worked on back in Sept/Oct. 2005. All these pet animals will debut in the last quarter of 2006, with at least one of them part of an exclusive set.

Addressing notes on the three new "Creature Mix" toys.

February 2006

Started sculpting some new "CREATURE MIX" toys for MGA Entertainment. This time they are based on a licensed property.

January 2006

On the 22nd of January Disney finalized a deal to buy Pixar. On the 23rd Disney announced that this version of "Toy Story 3" will be shelved permanently. All artwork is being catalogued for the Disney Archive. They are paying me till the end of my contract, which expires on Feb 17th.

The "CREATURE MIX" toys I sculpted for MGA Entertainment in early 2005 are finally available at Toys-r-Us.
